At state Street Clay we offer a variety of classes and clay experiences. Classes are open and we have posted schedules. Please follow us on social media for updates!
Clay Foundations: Hand Building and Wheel Throwing
Clay Foundations is a relaxed, beginner‑friendly 6‑week pottery course designed for adults who want to explore both major clay techniques before choosing a direction. Whether you’re returning to clay after years away or touching the material for the first time, this class gives you a fun, low‑pressure way to discover what you enjoy most.
Each week introduces a new foundational skill—starting with the tactile creativity of pinch, coil, and slab building, then moving into the meditative rhythm of the pottery wheel. You’ll create functional pieces using both methods, learn essential studio skills, and build confidence through hands‑on practice and guided demonstrations.
The final session is dedicated to glazing, giving you a complete start‑to‑finish pottery experience and a small collection of finished work to take home.

6-Week Intro to Wheel Throwing
Do you want to throw? This class will focus on learning to throw on the wheel. Students will learn how to center, pull cylinders, make bowls, mugs and handles. The final class will be dedicated to glazing the pieces made throughout the course. Clay, glazes, and firings of up to 10 finished pieces are included with the class. Students will be given practice passes that allow students to work on what they've learned in class, clay to be used outside of class can be purchased at market value (glazing and firing for that clay is included with purchase.)

6 Week Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Take your wheel‑throwing skills to the next level in this focused 6‑week intermediate course designed to build confidence, control, and creative range. Each session introduces a new technique or form, guiding you from taller vessels to lidded jars, pitchers, and refined surface design. You’ll work with larger amounts of clay, learn multi‑part construction, and develop a more intentional approach to shaping and finishing your work.
Over the first five weeks, you’ll throw and trim a variety of functional forms while exploring intermediate techniques such as advanced centering, throwing consistent sets, creating galleries and lids, adding handles and spouts, and surface design. The final week is dedicated entirely to glazing, where you’ll learn how to choose, layer, and apply glazes to complement your forms.
Students will complete a small collection of finished pieces, including bowls, plates, a lidded jar, and a functional pouring vessel. Included with the class are 10 fired and glazed pieces. Students will be given practice passes that allow students to work on what they've learned in class, clay to be used outside of class can be purchased at market value (glazing and firing for that clay is included with purchase.)

6-Week Intro to Hand Building
Do you want to make things by hand? This class will focus on learning to hand-build with clay. We will practice pinch pots, coil building, soft and hard slab construction along with a variety of surface treatments. Students will also learn how to use the clay extruder and slab roller. Students will be given one 3hr day pass per week to practice what they've learned. Clay, glazes, and firings are included with the class.

One- Time Clay Experiences
Have you ever wanted to make your own pottery? Our one- time clay experiences are perfect for date night or a girl's night out. Both wheel throwing and hand building experiences are available. Our goal will be to make your very own pieces of pottery in our one-time class. All skill levels are welcome.
After class we will glaze them in the color of your choice and fire them for you. Your artwork will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after your class; we will contact you when it is complete.
